Starch Works

I have it on good authority that starches make you fat. BigPharma agrees. I do not. Let's see who is right.

This is the first day where I haven’t been at work. I actually slept in really late, mostly I think just catching up on sleep. As recommended by Dr. McDougall, I have also kept off the caffeine. Apart from a couple of headaches last week (which might not even have been related), I’ve not had much in the way of withdrawal symptoms. This is pretty odd, because I was drinking a lot of energy drinks and coffee prior to this, so I would have expected really big withdrawal symptoms. Maybe they just haven’t kicked in yet.

I didn’t have breakfast and I skipped lunch, but mostly by accident because I was pretty busy and wasn’t paying attention to the time. I guess that’s really how it’s supposed to be anyway. Now I was going to meet up with my wife whilst my son had his maths lesson and the plan was that we’d get something to eat. I didn’t have much hope of finding something suitable so again, I followed Dr Klaper’s advice - before you go out to eat, eat!.

So I stopped at the subway sandwich shop downstairs and found that they had a sandwich that was just right - plain bread with veggies of choice. They didn’t have any safe looking sauces, so I went with the vinegar which added a bit of bite to it. I ate it on the way to the restaurant and sure enough when we got there, there wasn’t anything that looked safe (they did have a “healthy” egg sandwich though). In the end I went for ice lemon water (pretty much as it sounds) and thanks to having eaten in advance, I was good.

I was a little peckish when we got back home though so I had a small apple and a banana (have been waiting for that one to ripen for days) and that kept me going until dinner, which is what I’m eating as I write this. Dinner is the same thing it has been all week, and surprisingly (or not if you ask Dr. McDougall), I’m not bored with it at all. It’s just as tasty as it was on day one. I’ve tried to avoid adding salt to taste with the hope that I’ll just get used to it as it is. So far that’s working pretty well…
