Starch Works

I have it on good authority that starches make you fat. BigPharma agrees. I do not. Let's see who is right.

Well, feeling a bit “meh” today, something similar to motion sickness. I think it’s down to the big change in the weather (amber rain signal here in Hong Kong) rather than what I’m eating. I also don’t think it’s related to the fact that my weight has gone up 200 grams either ;). Actually I’m somewhat relieved that it has - I’ve been waiting for days for it to move back up the scale (again remembering that scales only provide a snapshot on the entire contents of your body at a specific point in time) and have been surprised that it’s taken this long. Of course, there’s no rule that says it has to go up, but I was surprised I got away with it for this long :)

I was thinking of skipping breakfast today as I wasn’t really that hungry, but I wasn’t feeling great otherwise so I decided to eat anyway. It didn’t make a difference, I still didn’t feel great. It could still simply be withdrawal symptoms from all the stuff I ate / did before, but I guess we’ll have to see. For those who are wondering, yes, it was the same old oatmeal as usual (though apparently I shouldn’t be using instant oatmeal).

Also, my blood pressure today was almost identical (just one point off) from yesterday. Seems suspicious, but I checked the gallery on my phone and it checks out. I think the blood sugar was a bit lower today because I didn’t eat anything after dinner, which was pretty early (around 6ish).

Lunch time weirdness

Here’s a new one for me. Come lunch time, I usually eat lunch right away, which is around 12pm. Now I did have breakfast a little later than usual (about 30 minutes later), but it got to 1:16pm and I still wasn’t hungry. Or at least, I’m not sure if I’m hungry or not. Very weird sensation. I could certainly eat, so I’m definitely not full, but I can’t tell if I am actually hungry. I’ve had a fair bit of water today and maybe that’s offsetting it a bit but still, it’s weird…

I’m wondering if it is related to migraines. I used to get migaines pretty much every time the weather changed. I’d wake up with a headache, look out the window and sure enough it would be pouring down. That’s basically what happened today, although this time without the migraine, just a little “offness”. I wonder if this is a migraine replacement?

Another meeting

I met up with a friend after work, which meant a trip to the coffee shop. Now currently, I’m not drinking coffee, more to be compliant than any great threat that it poses to me. I’m not the sort of person who’d down 6 mugs a day and so all the reasons given for giving up coffee have never posed me a problem. Thus I think ultimately it won’t be an issue to indulge in a soya latte even now and then. For now though, it meant either mint or chamomile tea. This time I went for the mint…

It also meant a late dinner as I didn’t get home until 9pm. Still, I was reasonably hungry (I’d snuck in a McDougall snack pot just before heading out to meet my friend to take the edge off) and ate the usual dinner - although this time broccoli was replaced with celery!

Not so hungry

I am finding though that I’m really not as hungry as I was before I started this. I’m waking up and not feeling especially hungry. I mean, I can eat and eat comfortably but I don’t really have any particular drive to do so. I could probably have skipped dinner (although I was looking forward to it and somewhat peckish) and maybe in future I’ll pay more attention to the hunger drive rather than the time on my watch.
